One
important distinction to be noted in martial arts is the training value
between the Jutsu (technique)
and the Do (Way).
Training in martial jutsu focuses purely on a martial art’s physical
benefits. ‘Do’ refers to a martial art’s spiritual
components. Training in the martial Do widens the spectrum of study
for resolving the everyday conflicts of life. It is within the Do that
the one's Martial Art becomes a "way of life." And it is through
the Do that one sharpens both the inner and outer perceptions that build
life-long
protective and evolutionary skills.
Authentic martial discipline integrates both the physical and psychic structures
to heighten personal power, beginning with the most primal need for self-protection.
Conventional ideas about martial arts do not define our vision. The Wind
School follows the enlightenment tradition of the Martial Ways. This tradition
offers a path to wholeness, integration, and health, along with practical
self-protective skills.
The martial arts are not mentally static disciplines, adrenaline highs,
or mere accumulations of intriguing combat techniques. You can throw ten
thousand punches, rehearse a hundred traditional forms, or win every competition,
yet never reach an elevated state of being. It is through the integration
of both the hard (biomechanical) and the soft (internal/bioelectric) principles
that one can achieve true personal balance.
Disciplined practice forges an indomitable spirit and distills the mind
into clear consciousness.
